Bay Microsystems Demonstrates Industry's First 10G ATM SAR
Bay's IDS Platform With Flagship Montego NPU/TM/SAR Accelerates Design of OC48c and OC192c/10G Networking Equipment
Santa Clara, Calif., Oct. 10, 2002 - Bay Microsystems, a leader in high performance network processors and traffic managers, today announced the first public demonstration of its Internetworking Development System (IDS), emphasizing the unique 10G ATM SAR (Segmentation and Reassembly) functions of the single-chip Montego™ OC192c/10G network processor and traffic manager. The demonstration will be presented at the Next Generation Networks Conference next week in Boston, MA, at the Bay Microsystems booth #103.In addition to being the industry's first single-chip OC192c/10G network processor and traffic manager, Montego is the industry's only 10G ATM SAR. Bay's interactive demonstration of the IDS and Montego will also showcase the complete Application Development Environment (ADE), including its Application Programming Interface (API) and Java GUI. The simple-to-use API and GUI provide a complete system-level and device-level programming environment that network systems OEMs can intuitively program on-the-fly. The ADE also enables hardware emulation, software simulation and system debug. The IDS significantly reduces development time required by designers of emerging communication systems, providing an integrated platform for hardware and software development.
This booth demonstration, until now only given privately under NDA, will show full duplex 10G operation of Montego emphasizing the SAR functionality for ATM cell processing, as well as packet processing for IP, Frame Relay, Ethernet and MPLS. The demonstration will also highlight Montego's policing and traffic engineering capabilities, including voice grade scheduling and shaping.
"High speed ATM cell processing has once again moved to the forefront," said Chuck Gershman, President and CEO of Bay Microsystems. "Our customers are now demanding wire-rate ATM cell processing as an integral element of NPU functionality. Montego is uniquely suited to address these demands."
