Bay Microsystems Expands Its Federal Business With Multi-Million Dollar Deal to Develop Next Generation Secure Broadband Solutions

Santa Clara, CA, June 18, 2004 - Bay Microsystems, a leader in high performance network processing solutions, today announced an expansion of its business with the U.S. Government through continuing multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts to develop next generation technology solutions for the government's global mission critical secure broadband network that spans air, ground and sea.

Bay has been delivering full-line rate 10Gbps Montego®-based system solutions to the U.S. Government for more than one year. Its contracts include the sale of existing products as well as on-going development of Bay's Internetworking Processor™ (InP) family for higher speed (up to 40G) data transfer rates for use within these networks of the federal government. Bay's InP family is scalable, intelligent, and ultra-high performance, suited for the full range of carrier class products.

"Bay has been an excellent technology partner for the federal government, and has clearly demonstrated its ability to develop leading edge technology and products for next generation secure broadband networks," said Paul Kaminski, former Under Secretary of Defense and member of Bay Microsystems' board of directors

Bay's InP family is the heart of solutions that can mediate, aggregate, switch and transport voice, video and data traffic across network domains including LAN, SAN and WAN. These solutions are achieved through the InP family's unique protocol agile processing capabilities. This processing empowers maximum line rate operation for interworking and mediation of IPv4, IPv6, ATM, Frame Relay, SONET, Fibre Channel, GFP and other protocols simultaneously. The InP family includes Montego, the industry's only OC192c/10G processor capable of classification, policing, segmentation and reassembly, and traffic management at wire rate. The second member of the InP family is Biscayne™, a programmable classification processor that can parse, classify and police packets and cells at rates up to 16 Gbps, at minimum packet size regardless of traffic patterns.
